Free Hepatitis C Testing Event: Poughkeepsie

HVCS is providing free Hepatitis C testing and a bag lunch on 4 dates in May (which is Hepatitis Awareness Month). Testing and lunch incentives will be given at our SEP van (or in the Monticello office, on May 16th).

Most Important Meal Raises Funds for Food Closet Program
Thursday, October 28th, 2021The 2021 Most Important Meal, presented by Hudson Valley Credit Union, took place on Sunday, October 24th at the Fishkill Recreation Center. We raised nearly $6,000 for our food closet program, which is one of very few HVCS programs not funded by government grants.

Locks That Rock 30th Anniversary Party/HVCS Fundraiser

Andy Reid, host of HVCS’ podcast, chats with business owner Karen Catalano about her upcoming 30th anniversary celebration at her hair studio, Locks That Rock. The party takes place on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 12 noon at 1552 Route 9 in Wappingers Falls, NY. Karen is collecting nonperishable foods for HVCS’ food pantries. Hudson Valley Credit Union Presents: The Most Important Meal 2021

Help local people who are living with chronic illnesses get the nutrition and support they need to stay as healthy as possible!
Join HVCS at the Fishkill Recreation Center on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 9:00 am to 12 noon for a fun-filled breakfast blast from the past. Every ticket includes a commemorative souvenir bowl so you’ll always remember that the most important meal is the one you made possible for someone without enough food.
Fill up your bowl with cereal, granola or oatmeal and your favorite dairy (or dairy-free) topping. Not a cereal lover? We’ve got you covered with hot food items. You’ll also get bottomless coffee, tea and juice. This year we will not have the cereal buffet but all food options will be self-serve or grab-and-go. We’re also dreaming up new entertainment, contests, raffles and of course there will be the silent auction –all while raising funds for HVCS’ food and nutrition programs.
Our food and nutrition programs serve hundreds of people and families each year, and the budget is currently $10,000 short for 2021. We are hoping to raise that–and double–to ensure these vital services remain available for those in need.

Hepatitis C Team Reaches Out At Poughkeepsie PODS
Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021Our Hepatitis C (HCV) Patient Navigation program has been doing outreach at the Poughkeepsie PODS. These are former Dutchess County Jail inmate units that were converted to Temporary Housing Units during Covid-19. The HCV team provides HCV education, testing and runs a weekly table highlighting all of our HVCS programs.
MHA (Mental Health Association) and Hudson River Housing joined together to figure out how to provide services for individuals experiencing homeless in Dutchess County while adhering to social distancing guidelines. The space accommodates up to 52 males and 48 females.
We are glad to be a part of this valuable community resource!
