Empty Bowls Returns for 2015

Wednesday, March 18th, 2015

If you’re like us (and so many of our supporters) you love when local food combines with local charity…that’s why Empty Bowls at Rondout Valley High School is such a great event! Now in its 12th year, Empty Bowls unites hard-working art students, local restaurants, food pantries and Ulster County residents who want to do good. On Friday, April 17th, hundreds of generous guests gather at Rondout Valley for an all-you-can-eat soup and ice cream buffet. For a $15 donation, choose from a one-of-a-kind handmade bowl and get your fill–or opt for a $5 paper bowl. You get to take home your beautiful bowl when you’re done! All proceeds benefit local food pantries including HVCS. We recommend getting there early, since the handmade bowls go quickly. Check out all the details on the event page or go to www.emptybowls.webs.com.

The SantaCam: Photos from “Fill Chill”

Tuesday, December 16th, 2014

On Friday, December 12, 2014 Chill Wine Bar in Beacon hosted a food, toy and fund drive to support HVCS’ new Poughkeepsie food pantry. Guests dropped off unwrapped toys and  nonperishable foods, and made cash donations. Chill donated 25% of all sales for the night to HVCS, and that will be matched by a major corporation. Santa Claus himself stopped by to say thanks to our loyal, fun-loving donors and to hand out tokens of appreciation (donated by Elizabeth Arden). All told, we raised more than $500 and collected a carload of food!

Photos from Our Cheese & Wine Tasting Party

Thursday, November 6th, 2014

HVCS held an exclusive cheese and wine tasting party at the Beacon Pantry (in Beacon, of course) on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Owner Stacey Penlon and cheese fanatic Jen guided an intimate group of supporters through the seven styles of cheese, while local wine expert Bob Brink paired each offering with a special wine. It was a trip around the globe and through time as Stacey and Jen revealed the mysterious beginnings of cheese and the traditional methods now being revived by artisanal cheesemakers. Guests went home with some HVCS schwag, a Parmigiano Reggiano frisbee, and a huge block of knowledge about cheese!
