The Coalition’s Men’s Health Event is sponsored by The Healthy Black and Latino Barbershop Initiative in Poughkeepsie, NY.  Following the Barbershop visits will be a Father’s Day Parade in honor of one of our local community volunteers (John Flowers) who passed away earlier this year (organized by his daughter Yvonne Flowers and her committee. After the parade we will all gather on the Hudson River for more Men’s Health activities, entertainment, food, fun and fellowship.

The HIV Crisis Among Hispanic MSM

The Latino Commission on AIDS and the Hispanic Health Network just released this infographic on the HIV crisis among Hispanic/Latino men. This comes on the heels of the CDC’s recent release of a study which says that 1 in 4 Hispanic MSM (men who have sex with men) are estimated to be diagnosed with HIV in their lifetime.

“While Latinos are 17% of the US population, they accounted for 24% of all HIV infections in 2014. In 2014, every 54 minutes a Latino MSM was diagnosed with HIV in the United States and US territories.” Read more here.

oday is National Latino AIDS Awareness Day. In 2010 Latinos accounted for 26 per cent of ‪#‎HIV‬ infections among injection drug users. This clip, narrated by actress Rosie Perez, discusses the desperate need to lift the ban on federal funding for syringe exchange.
